Official Goods

Saturn and PS1 Baroque

Copies of the original game. The booklet on the Saturn version is made with layers of clear, folded plastic. One has the logo, another has the characters, etc, which creates a sort of 3D effect. According to Yonemitsu on Note, this fits the game's "multi-layered" world. This unusual packaging couldn't be fully automated with typical printing machinery, so each label had to be folded by hand and they went way over their packaging budget. Because of this, the PS1 packaging was deliberately made as barebones as possible (but at least it comes with a cute Littles keychain).

Game Guides

Baroque Complete Guidebook for the Sega Saturn (upper left), Baroque World Guidance (upper right), and Baroque ~Distorted Delusions~ Official Guidebook (bottom center). The Guidebooks have largely been translated and used as the basis for the strategy guides on this site, and the interviews from all of these books can be found on the Translations page. World Guidance isn't a strategy guide, but more of an artbook with a collection of interviews and the Baroquism Syndrome stories. It also has a lot of generic page count filler about basic real world concepts referenced in the game, accompanied by some bizarre, incongruent photos of naked women dressed as angels which were contributed by Eisaku Kito for some reason.

Promotional Magazines

The Baroque cover issue of Sega Saturn Magazine (right) and the supplemental Dengeki SS Baroque Appendix (left). The cover issue has a few pages dedicated to Baroque which primarily focus on Eisaku Kito's work on the game. The Appendix is a short promotional magazine which provides an extensive overview of Baroque's gameplay systems, enemies, level generation, etc.

Various Brochures

GDNET (left) contains promotional overviews for a number of Sega Saturn games, including Baroque. This is from earlier on in development, as evidenced by concept art showing the beta versions of Hungones and Johanna Kyon. The pink brochure (center) seems to be the precursor of the Baroque Report series, but it's just a folded piece of paper with barely any information inside. The PS1 port advertisement (right) is a single page advert from a game magazine.

Banner Ads

Fairly rare in-store posters for the Sega Saturn version. There's at least one other poster in this style which is primarily black and features promotional art of the Archangel.

Baroque Shooting

Why are there so many editions of this game? The red EA Best Selections version in the upper left (and iirc, the bottom center initial printing) contain a folder on the game disc which contains production materials (translated and available on the Downloads page), as well as some clock apps and a Jerryrom desktop pet (which was difficult to get working properly). You can also put a pen through the hole on the disc to impale the Archangel printed on the label <3. If you want to play this game (with censorship and fewer extras but an added continue feature), the game is now available on Steam and Switch under the title of Baroque Shooting: Reversed.

Baroque Typing

The bonus Archangel desktop assistant is arguably better than the game itself. You'll be typing Japanese words, but it's actually pretty easy to play in English since the game has you typing them in Romaji (essentially English characters). I did some super rough translations of most of the Japanese dialogue here a long time ago.

Baroque Syndrome

What can I whine about regarding this barebones PS1 visual novel that I haven't already? I refuse to translate it in full but you can read a breakdown of the game's routes here. Just be sure to read the original stories first!

Baroque Original Soundtracks

The soundtrack releases for the original versions of the game. The rarer original printing is pictured on the left and the re-release is pictured on the right. The re-release has extra content including four bonus tracks so you're not missing out on much if you didn't grab the original.

Baroque Remake Soundtrack

This is the deluxe version of the remake's incredibly mid soundtrack, which includes the two bonus tarot cards which complete the Malkuth Tarot Deck promotional bonus distributed with the PS2/Wii remake (see below). Also pictured is my PS2 copy of the remake I own for research and/or glowering at.

Malkuth Tarot Deck

The aforementioned preorder bonus, along with the two OST bonus cards. This is not a true tarot deck (only consisting of the major arcana) and I find the art choices pretty disappointing, especially because they emphasize NPCs over the Grotesques which were actually supposed to be associated with these cards. Even then, the NPC choices ignore actual tarot connections from development (like Eliza being inspired by the Temperance card). Despite this, there are some cute nods to diehard fans, like one of the scrapped Angel Dogs appearing alongside Koriel #12.

Littles Keychain

Another aforementioned bonus, this time from the deluxe PS1 edition. You could also obtain these by buying various limited edition merchandise from the 2021/2022 pop-up shop events (such as the Littles tall glasses which included one keychain each and Angelic Rifle body pillow which included five). I wonder if Sting just had leftover crates of these taking up space in their office.

Laser-etched Littles Keychain

I believe this was a Japan exclusive pre-order bonus for the remake. It's very small and difficult to see in regular lighting but looks amazing when illuminated. There were these little light-up, generic science chamber capsule toys popular with Baroque fans at the time, so I got one to display it in and I love how it looks.

Saturn Poster Ads

Two sales posters shown in stores to promote the Saturn version (shown here on either side of an earlier and less cluttered iteration of my collection). One also contains information on the promotional Baroque Report pamphlet/disc series. I have another one for the Playstation version but I'm running out of space to frame these as they're quite large and I don't want this muddy sprawl of Saturn esoterica taking up any more of the room than it already does >_<

Baroque Report series

These were promotional pamphlets distributed in stores and through the mail with exclusive information regarding the original game. You can find a translated omnibus of their contents here. The series consisted of Report Vol.1, Report Gold (two versions - the earlier of which came as a pair, one for you and one for a friend), Report Vol.3 (a series of postcards), and Report Z. The only one I'm missing is Report EX which was distributed during a concert event promoting the PS1 port and its vocal track.

Baroque Report CD Data File

A small promotional gallery for the Sega Saturn. It contains concept art, concept sculpture photos, a 3D model viewer for a few of the Grotesques, promotional material, and few other extras. The original mailer version is pictured on the right and the jewel case re-release is on the left. Their contents are identical.

Malkuth Memo Pad (black)

Two versions were available, red and black. The red one is matte, so I got the black one instead because the highlights are metallic and shiny. The pages inside have faint, layered text on them (pictured on the right). It feels like something horrible would happen to anyone whose name is written in it.

Mousepad

One of I think three mousepads available on the old Sting homepage? The other two are white with concept art of the protagonist and Archangel, respectively. I got this one because it was the most atmospheric and detailed. A warning to prospective collectors - whatever they used to make these absolutely reeks of what smelled like rotting fish oil. I kept it in a container full of baking soda in the garage for months before it was inoffensive enough to frame.

Gangan Versus Cards

Baroque: the Missing Paradigm was serialized in Monthly G Fantasy Magazine, which just so happened to have its own collectible card game. As such, Shinshu Ueda's Baroque manga adaptation received nine cards, including two foil variants. I don't know how to play, but the card mechanics sound neat, like Koriel #12 becoming stronger every time he revives upon death or the Great Heat Wave which only spares cards with asymmetrical values. Also pictured on the right is Arle and Carbuncle, characters from another of Yonemitsu's game series.

I was able to pull the foil Archangel from boosters, but the foil Guardian Angel wasn't anywhere to be found. The only trace of her I could find was an old Sting giveaway for Baroque Syndrome, in which three complete sets were offered as prizes. Does this mean there are only three of them in existence? That can't be right. Somehow I managed to find an auction listing for this card for only 500 yen after years of fruitless searching.

Shinsu Ueda X'Mas Card

A 1999 X'Mas Card by Shinsu Ueda, the author of Baroque's manga adaptation, "the Missing Paradigm". Very cute.

Telephone Cards

Japan had a huge array of phone cards you could use to operate public payphones, with tons of them being branded with just about anything you can think of (unfortunately, in some cases). These are the two that ESP released for the original game, and Sting went on to release several more for the PS2/Wii remake.

Tokyo Game Show Puzzle

A rare, miniature jigsaw puzzle distributed at Tokyo Game Show when Sting was first promoting the game. I left it sealed because I've heard that the adhesive used in the pieces can break down over time. What decaying horrors await inside, I will never know.

Welcome Stickers and Pins

2021 brought a lot of exciting things for Baroque fans, including a pop-up shop/museum showcasing the surviving Baroque concept sculptures and art. After paying admission, you got one of these Archangel/Rifle sticker sets. I needed two visits, so I should like, open and use the other set already, right? Too bad I treat stickers with the same neurotic frugality I reserve for survival horror inventory.

Also pictured are a few of the pins that were on sale at the exhibition. They made a whole series of pins, including Death and Galgal Tank Joe, but they were kinda ugly so I passed on those.

Acrylic Protagonist

One of the four larger acrylic standees featuring the Protagonist, the Archangel, Eliza, and Alice. Grabbed it along with my massive haul on impulse, but I kind of wish I had bought Eliza instead. Each has a little quote card that plugs into the base, and in true JRPG protagonist fashion, Koriel #12 just gets a "..."

Acrylic Grotesques

The restraint I showed with the Acrylic main characters was nowhere to be seen when it came to these. They were only distributed in a capsule machine at the 2021 pop-up shop and I went absolutely feral over the impossible task of collecting all 22. Without the (quickly vanishing) aftermarket and trades I made with some very kind fans, I could have never completed the set. I only know of two complete sets, mine and the set I helped another fan complete via trading. This was such a ruthless, evil move on Sting's part omg

I particularly like that Kato included three tiny Grues in various stages of hopping and that Jerryrom comes with one of those mini-Jerryroms from the training dungeon.

Acrylic Outer World NPCs

When it came to these, Sting was a lot kinder and I am so grateful because Baroque's outlanders are just my favorite weird lil guys. The Sentry Angel and Neck Thing both come with buried versions.

Releasing at the 2022 pop-up event, these were mercifully sold individually and as complete sets so no more gachapon-gremlin behavior required on my part. These all come with an extra slot in the stand for a backing card covered in voiceline quotes from each character, but I keep those in a drawer because I find them too visually drab when lined up. I also got a Sense Sphere stand for these lil guys which is visible in other pictures on this page.

Acrylic Tower NPCs

These are another set of acrylic NPCs, distributed the same way as the Outer World NPC set. I really like that the Eliza, Alice, Koriel member, and Guardian Angel quote cards are designed to make them float. I'm not entirely sure why they didn't make a Koriel #12 one though, as he does have a sprite (from the clone lab sequence).

Hologram Keychains

More stuff from the pop-up events! These keychains are holograms, so they shift through several frames of animation as you look at them from different angles. There were others available (including a Death one), but I stuck to the cutest lil guys I like most. I wish they made a Johanna Kyon one though :(

Little Wish Keychains

A (fake) series of the (fake) virtual pets in Baroque Report Z's catalogue of (fake) merchandise they knew would never see the light of day. These were blind bag purchases at the pop-up store events. I bought one in 2021 (Urim & Thummim) and one in 2022 (the Archangel). They're basically just a block of rubber with zero functionality, but I'm a virtual pet addict so I couldn't help myself.

Makeup Pouch

A small zippered pouch covered in adorable chibi art from the Malkuth Kingdom park map in Baroque Report Z. Adorable, I love this thing. Not very big, but it can still fit a compact and essentials.

Sack Thing Bag

I had to get the bag because I think it's the only piece of official Sack Thing merch and she's my fav. It's weird though. There are two bags (a plastic outer bag and an inner burlap one) which aren't attached to each other and it feels weird when you're holding it since there's four handles in total. You can use them separately but Sack Thing is printed upside down and doesn't look great on her own. Idk, I still want to use it but I'm going to get strange looks at the farmer's market.

Pattern Mat

Small little foot mat which has printing on both sides, so you can display it upright or reversed. It has a thin sheet of some kinda foam inside which gives it a super satisfying soft yet firm squish.

Archangel Plush + Misc

There were two small plushies sold at the 2022 pop-up event, one of the Archangel and one of the protagonist (although they marketed identical versions of this as either the older or younger brother so fans would buy two). I wasn't a fan of that design, but I had to have an Archangel. Here he is nailed to the wall where he belongs, watching over the shelf with the acrylic Tower NPC set, Littles glasses, Baroque ~the Missing Paradigm~ special edition manga, and my embarrassingly huge pile of Baroque doujinshi.

Full collection

Here's the current central tower display aka the aforementioned muddy sprawl of esoterica, not including the doujinshi shelf or banner posters. Fortunately the only other things I'm still actively searching for are doujinshi-adjacent, so this eyesore won't be spreading out any further. Still trying to figure out if there's a less ugly way to display all of this.

Not pictured: my Baroque mug and desk calendar (both currently in use).

Unofficial Goods

Simulation Chamber

I found this weird sci-fi chamber statue thing which looked similar to the one from Baroque's opening. We installed a tiny monitor in it which plays Baroque gameplay footage so it's like you're watching the protagonist run through the simulation.

Sack Thing Statuette

This statue of my favorite character was a project I commissioned from wonderfully talented sculptor "The Monster Maiden" on Etsy. She did an amazing job from my vague request to make a chibi version of an obscure character from an obscure game. I absolutely love how she turned out. Aside from customs, the Monster Maiden also makes a variety of excellently chibified monsters from horror and sci-fi films, so please check her out!

Thing Thing CD Case

I ordered this from one of those generic print-to-order sites after the idea occurred to me. He can fit 32 discs in his head and does not require any S&M in order to relinquish them.
